Aftercare

DO:

1. Plan your seating arrangements carefully around your fire pit

2. Locate your fire pit away from any low hanging trees or building structures. We recommend that you keep your fire pit a minimum of 10-20 feet away from any building structure - be conscious of the direction the wind is blowing before starting your fire, to avoid any fire spreading to any other structures, or plants

3. Place your firepit on a level surface. We recommend that you have a brick, concrete, ceramic, or stone surface beneath your fire pit, to provide the sturdiest of foundations. Do NOT use your fire pit on wooden decks

4. Ensure the burn compartment of your fire pit is cleaned after use, to avoid any unnecessary build up.

5. Leave a thin layer of ash to protect the bottom

6. Use this product in accordance with all applicable local/government bylaws

7. Exercise the same precautions with your fire pit, as you would with any open fire

8. Keep all electrical cords away from your fire pit

9. Use long, sturdy fire pit tools when adding or moving logs

 

DON’T:

1. DO NOT use this outdoor fire pit without reading the entire FACT sheet, in full

2. DO NOT burn charcoal briquets, lump charcoal, manufactured logs, driftwood, rubbish, leaves, paper, cardboard, plywood, painted, stained or pressure treated wood. Avoid using softwoods such as pine or cedar that can throw out sparks

3. DO NOT use this outdoor fire pit for indoor heating. TOXIC carbon monoxide fumes can accumulate and cause asphyxiation

4. DO NOT leave your fire pit unattended. Actions should be taken to supervise your fire pit until such times as the flame is completely extinguished

5. DO NOT leave children or pets unattended around your fire pit. Ensure children and pets are set further back from the firepit and educate children on the dangers of fire

6. DO NOT use petrol, kerosene, diesel fuel, lighter fluid or alcohol to light or relight your outdoor fire pit

7. DO NOT add paper, or any other flammable material to your fire pit

8. DO NOT alter this outdoor fire pit in any way

9. DO NOT use in an explosive atmosphere

10. DO NOT store or use fuel, or any other flammable vapor/liquid in or around the vicinity of this, or any other appliance

11. DO NOT store or use an LP gas cylinder within 10 feet of your outdoor fire pit while in operation

12. DO NOT use this outdoor fire pit near any automobile, truck, van or recreational vehicle

13. DO NOT place your outdoor fire pit on any form of wooden deck

14. DO NOT wear flammable or loose clothing when operating your fire pit

15. DO NOT use your fire pit in windy conditions

16. DO NOT attempt to move or store your fire pit, until all ashes and coals are completely extinguished

17. DO NOT remove ashes or coals until they are completely and fully extinguished.

18. DO NOT touch your fire pit until it has completely cooled, unless you are wearing protective equipment, such as gloves, BBQ mittens, or hot pads. Never touch ashes or coals to see if they are hot

19. DO NOT overload the fire pit. Do not add additional firewood until the fire burns down

20. DO NOT lean over your fire pit when lighting, or when in use

21. DO NOT place a guard, or fire pit tools onto combustible surfaces such as grass, wooden deck, or furniture

 

LIGHTING YOUR FIRE PIT

1. Ensure there is only a small amount of ash in the bottom of the bowl

2. Place a layer of dry kindling or a natural firestarter into the centre of the grate

3. Place above that, a layer of dry seasoned hardwood that is cut to lengths of no more than 3/4 of the diameter of the bowl

4. Use a match to light kindling, or firestarter

 

TENDING TO YOUR FIRE PIT

You may need to shift and/or add logs for an ideal experience

1. Always wear protective gloves, or mittens when tending to your fire

2. Wait until glowing coals have developed, before adding additional wood

3. While using a long-handled fireplace tool, shift coals and logs to allow additional airflow

4. If additional wood is required, place wood on top coals. Be careful not to shift ashes

* Do NOT add gasoline, kerosene, diesel fuel, Lighter fluid or alcohol to relight or enhance an existing fire

 

EXTINGUISHING YOUR FIRE PIT

1. Allow fire to burn itself out

Do NOT use water to extinguish as this is dangerous and can cause damage to your outdoor fire pit

 

CLEANING YOUR FIRE PIT

1. Wipe exterior surfaces with a mild dishwashing detergent or baking soda

2. For stubborn surfaces use a citrus based degreaser and a nylon scrubbing brush

3. Rinse clean with water

4. Remove built-up creosote from components with a chimney cleaning product

Do NOT attempt to clean this outdoor fire pit until the fire is COMPLETELY out

Do NOT use oven cleaner or abrasive cleaners as these will damage the product

Do NOT clean any part of this outdoor fire pit in a self-cleaning oven as it may damage the finish

 

STORING YOUR FIRE PIT

Do NOT move or store this outdoor fire pit until the fire is COMPLETELY out

1. Once the fire is out, coals are cold and outdoor fire pit is cool to the touch, remove ashes and properly dispose

2. Store in a location away from children and pets

 

CARING FOR YOUR FIRE PIT

1. Keep the fire pit clean and free of debris that retains moisture and aids rusting

2. Protect the fire pit from rain and moisture by using a well-fitting cover, or by storing the fire pit in a garage or shed to hinder rust formation

3. Use a natural heat-resistant barrier in the fire pit bowl, like sand or lava rock, between the fire and the fire pit’s metal to protect the finish and preserve metal strength

4. Inspect the fire pit regularly for early signs of rust.

5. If any damage or rust is detected, do NOT operate your firepit, until all necessary repairs have been carried out in full

6. Remove any rust and apply touch-ups with heat resistant paint before the rust can spread

7. Apply a light coat of vegetable oil to the interior of the fire pit after cleaning to slow rust formation

8. Polish the metal with warm water and dishwasher detergent

 

NOTES

1. This outdoor fire pit is NOT for commercial use

2. This outdoor fire pit is NOT to be operated by children

3. This outdoor fire pit is NOT to be used in, or on boats or recreational vehicles

4. The use of alcohol, prescription or non-prescription drugs may impair your ability to properly assemble, or safely operate your fire pit

5. This outdoor fire pit is for use with dry, seasoned hardwood. It will burn hotter, more completely and create less smoke

6. Avoid inhaling smoke from the fire and getting it into your eyes

7. This outdoor fire pit should be thoroughly inspected and cleaned on a regular basis

8. After a period of storage and/or non-use, check for signs of damage and creosote build-up. Do NOT operate until necessary repairs and/or clean-up have been carried out in full

9. Deaths, serious injury or damage to property may occur if the above is not followed in full
